Dr. Tim Smaby, CFA, FRM - Senior Vice President of Faculty and Content

Tim has served as the CFA Level 2 Manager since joining Schweser in 2003. He also manages content development for Schweser and coordinates the Financial Risk Manager (FRM) review programs. Prior to joining Schweser, Tim served as an associate professor of finance and finance program chair at Penn State Erie. As the finance program chair he developed a new finance major based on the CFA Institute Body of Knowledge designed to encourage undergraduate students to enter the CFA? program. He has ten years of teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the areas of investments, corporate finance, and international finance. In addition, he has published numerous articles in academic journals. Tim earned his doctoral degree in finance from the University of Cincinnati.

Dr. R. Douglas Van Eaton, CFA - Vice President

Before joining Schweser as vice president and Level 1 manager, Doug taught finance at Texas Christian University, the University of North Texas, and the University of Washington. Prior to that, he spent six years with the brokerage firm of Dean Witter. He has published articles in both academic and professional journals, including the Financial Analysts Journal, Journal of Investing, Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting, and the Financial Services Review. His work has been cited in the CFA digest and won an award from the CFP Board of Examiners. Doug also has many years of experience teaching financial professionals, including CFA exam review courses for the Dallas Society of Financial Analysts (DSFA) and JKE (Excel) Exam Review, as well as seminars for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) in finance, accounting, and funds management. Doug’s education includes a master’s degree in economics and a doctorate in finance, both from the University of Washington.

Dr. Bruce Kuhlman, CFA, CAIA - Vice President

Bruce is Vice President and Level 3 Manager at Schweser Study Program. He received his MBA and PhD, both in finance, from the University of Florida and taught undergraduate and graduate corporate finance and investments for sixteen years prior to joining Schweser in 2002. Bruce is also director of the Study Seminar for Financial Analysts (a service of Schweser Study Program) at the University of Windsor in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, author of CFA? Fundamentals, and creator and primary editor of CFA? Fundamentals: the Schweser Guide to Success Video Series.

David W. Wiley, CFA - Division Vice President

Dave is Vice President of Curriculum for Schweser Study Program and Director of the Koppel & Wiley CFA review courses in Europe and the Study Seminar for Financial Analysts (SSFA) at the University of Windsor. Before the companies were acquired by Schweser Study Program, he was a partner with Koppel & Wiley and Excel Exam Review (previously JKE Exam Review).

In 1982 Dave received an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University; and in 1986 he was awarded the CFA designation and is a member of the CFA Institute. As a member of the CFA Society of Dallas-Fort Worth (CFAS-DFW), he has served as Education Chair since 1990 and is a past president. Dave founded CFAS-DFW’s Weekly CFA Review Course and Study Program and has directed the program since its inception in 1989.

David Ekstrom, CFA - Vice President

David is Vice President of Curriculum for Schweser Study Program, as well as the Director of Schweser’s Continuing Professional Education Program. He is the chief architect of Schweser’s Practice Exams for all three levels of the CFA program.

David’s background includes portfolio management, equity analysis, and development and administration of employee benefit plans and personal trusts. David also has taught at numerous private CFA review courses in North America, South Africa, and Europe, specializing in economics, debt investments and derivatives. He has prepared CFA review notes and practice exams for the last 16 years, as a principal of JKE Exam Review, Inc. and Excel Exam Review, Inc. JKE and Excel were acquired by Schweser in 2003.

Jodi Joachim, CFA - Director of Content Development

Kurt earned his MBA with a concentration in economics from the University of Tampa and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse. Prior to joining Schweser in 2000 Kurt worked as a financial advisor for a national broker dealer managing client accounts for eight years. At Schweser, he works in the content department primarily with the various online programs. Kurt received his CFA charter in 2005.

Derek Burkett, CFA, FRM - Senior Content Specialist

Derek is a Content Specialist for Schweser. His current role includes writing and editing CFA?, FRM?, and CAIA? review material as well as material for Schweser Continuing Education. Derek holds an M.S. in finance from the University of Denver and a B.S. in economics from Texas A&M University. Prior to joining Schweser, Derek worked as a business valuation consultant for CBIZ Valuation Group, Inc. His valuation experience includes purchase price allocations, gift and estate tax valuations, family limited partnership valuations, intangible asset valuation, intangible asset impairment testing, public and private company valuations, and damage analysis for securities litigation.

Craig S. Prochaska, CFA - Content Specialist

Craig joined Schweser in July 2006 as a Content Specialist. He spent 18 years with Bank One Corporation and its predecessor First Chicago Corporation, in positions including forecast economist and editor of capital markets research. Craig holds an MBA in business economics from DePaul University and a bachelor of science in finance from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Eric has been with Schweser since 2003. At Schweser, Eric specializes in the development of CFA Level 3 content and is the team leader for the Financial Risk Manager (FRM) designation product line. He earned his bachelor of science in finance from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse. Eric is a CFA Charterholder and a certified Financial Risk Manager.
